  • Do You Castrate Your Livestock?
No. Castration is without a doubt a concern for the humane treatment of livestock and for the end consumer. This is regularly practiced throughout 99.9% of all livestock farming and, ranching operations in the United States. When a bull calf is castrated, it's no longer viable for breeding, as his testicles have been destroyed. The castration process can be performed in a number of ways. 1. chemical castration. 2. Banding castration. 3. Surgical castration. 4. Clamping or, crimping castration using emasculators. Castration can be done using anesthetic - Although it is rare. After banding and, surgical castrations, it is important to prevent infection and tetanus. This preventative measure is done through antibiotics, Tetanus Toxoid administration and, a first series of vaccines. The National Organic Program, encourages, accepts and, permits the use of castration, administration of vaccines and, antibiotics. Would you like to know more about this? Livestock are castrated for many reasons. The most common are, but not limited to; A. PERFORMANCE. After castration their bodies are no longer focused on proper male development (as nature intended). They begin to pack on those pounds and extra layers of fat. Instead of being "naturally slow grown" with lean, strong muscles. they are producing more estrogenic fat layers. B. HORMONES. Estrogen does not have to injected into male livestock, it can be created through the process of castration. This accelerates the rate of growth and, gets the fatty cattle to market in under 30 months and to turn those profits. --------- Most livestock ranchers and farmers do not keep in-tact males. They buy sperm and, perform artificial insemination. This is common practice on poultry farms too. They do not want the added expenses of feeding males all year. ---------- Consuming food from sexually altered livestock, may alter your natural levels of estrogen and oestrogen (progesterone). Estrogens have been linked to: prostate cancer (Link) male breast cancer (Link) Around 70 per cent of breast cancers are sensitive to the female sex hormone oestrogen (Link) ------ It takes experienced, passionate specialists to do what we do every single day. We prefer a natural approach and of course it's more costly and time consuming. We are around many bulls, rams, bucks, roosters and other male animals, all the time. They are sometimes excited or, otherwise focused on breeding and this is understood. Sometimes, breeding season can be challenging with breeder excitement, the destruction of livestock equipment, walls, fencing, sheds and, even bull panels. In the long run it's worth it! The secrets are in the depths of our hearts. We understand livestock and, animal behaviors and, we know that they are animalistic. We are here to help them live naturally and, help them enjoy each of their days. We get it and, they do too. Our livestock are meant to live in herds, flocks, gaggles, droves, sounders, tribes, trips, rafters etc. Balance is important to the ecological system, environment and to our food supply.
  • What Is Allergen-Free?
Some foods such as grains, gluten proteins and nuts can cause allergic reactions in people. Animals can also have allergic reactions. Many tree nuts are treated with pesticides and fungicides. Certified organic nuts can also be treated. Products that can trigger allergic reactions are not necessary here as we use a holistic approach to farming and ranching. Would you like to know more?
  • Mycotoxins
Mycotoxins are deadly molds found in foods, livestock feeds, our environment and, even Certified Organic foods too. Mycotoxins and other types of molds can cause cancer, disease, illness and can lead to a host of health problems.
  • Aflatoxins
Aflatoxins are the most dangerous toxins to humans. Aflatoxins and Mycotoxins physically damage your immune sysytem. They are known to suppress your immune sysytem, which means that you are more susceptible to infections, disease and, illness.
  • Arsenic In Food
Some chickens are fed arsenic. It makes them more hungry. They eat more and, grow faster. Rainbow Ranch Farms is "Arsenic-Free" Want to know more?
  • Do You Administer Vaccines To Your Livestock?
No. We do not have a need for vaccines on our farms and ranches as our livestock get all of their necessary antibodies from their parent stock and, their culturally balanced lifestyle and environment. Vaccines can be very dangerous. They can cross the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB). Vaccines are used widely by 99.9% of all farmers and, ranchers in the United States. The National Organic Program encourages that farmers and, ranchers vaccinate their livestock. This is because most farmers and ranchers buy livestock from auctions, online forums and neighbors. Nobody knows the background of that livestock or, the living conditions they came from. There are thousands of different types of foreign bacteria, fungi and diseases those animals could be hosting and transporting. Vaccinosis is a disease that results from over-vaccination. Over-vaccination can lead to a host of health problems. I do not want to eat food with livestock vaccines. I don't know if they could build up in my body and eventually affect my immune system in some unfortunate and irreversible way. I stay away from vaccines in my food supply. That's one of many reasons why I grow my own food! Would you like to know more?
  • Do You Administer Antibiotics To Your Livestock?
No. They don't need antibiotics. Our livestock get all of their antibodies naturally. They develop strong immune systems. They are raised with their parent stock and, livestock siblings. We do not buy livestock from auctions, as most others do. We do not bring foreign strains of bacteria onto our farms or ranches. Antibiotic use can lead to antibiotic resistance. This is one of the most dangerous situations that the world is faced with. In the wake of novel diseases that are non responsive to antibiotics the last thing anyone will want is to develop a strain of infectious disease or infection that will not respond to basic antibiotics. • Do You De-Horn Your Livestock?
No. Some types of livestock have horns. Animals like deer, cattle, goats and male sheep have horns for a whole host of reasons. Horns help to regulate body temperature. Horns help them during mating season. Horns help them to defend themselves and so on. Some animals that you expect to be horned sometimes are naturally polled. Others have been disbudded (dehorned). Dehorning is cruel in my opinion. If you have ever heard those blood curdling screams, those sounds of horror and smell of burning fur and flesh, it will change your prospective on disbudding/dehorning practices. Novice and uninformed people disbud/dehorn their livestock because they believe it's safer for the other animals and for the people that care for them. In my opinion, this is only true if you do not know what you are doing. We take our time with each and every animal. We develop a relationship and level of mutual respect. We learn to understand the culture of each species. It's so sad that some people follow the practices of commercial practices and call themselves "sustainable" "organic" or "regenerative". Many animals are left brain damaged, disfigured and many more die from dehorning. In my opinion, It impacts their quality of life. Would you like to know more?
